Queen of the Dead

We've all heard the tale of Hades' wife. Plucked from her mother in the full bloom of maidenhood by the ruler of the underworld and kept against her will. But what if a part of her wanted to stay? What if it wasn't abduction at all, but rather an intoxicating courtship that led to an epic tug-of-war with a naive young woman acting as the rope? A sensory examination of a well-known and perhaps misinterpreted story of home, love and belonging.
This short, lyrical solo play written and performed by Carolynne Wilcox was originally conceived in a Solo Performance class at Freehold Theatre, and consequently workshopped at Freehold's Incubator Studio Series 2014 and performed for Open Studio #6 in February 2015 at On The Boards, directed by Lenore Bensinger with sound design by Andrew Swan.
